“ Wildlife photography is about putting in the time, field craft and being there at the right moment ”

Amazing Light
There are times in wildlife photography when it’s raining or the wind is wild, and after hours with no photos, you question why you’re out there. Then an image like this reminds you exactly why it’s worth it.
Just as this grebe came into view beyond the end of a distant reed bed, the sun broke over the horizon and lit everything in the most beautiful way.
The gentle tones and low perspective really help make this image something special.

Cormorant & The Trout
Cormorants are often unpopular with fishermen, and this image clearly shows why.
Here, a cormorant is seen swallowing a surprisingly large Rainbow Trout whole. It's incredible to witness how such a sleek bird can consume a fish nearly as long as its body.
As it gulps it down, you could actually see the fish wriggling and shifting inside the bird’s throat, trying to resist its fate.

Redshank
Over the last few weeks, I’ve focused on reconnecting with what I love about wildlife photography by simply walking around with my camera.
Too often, I’m either tied up installing owl boxes with surveillance cameras for landowners or caught in larger photography projects that involve extensive planning and lots of waiting.
It’s been refreshing to step outside and just enjoy nature.
